The Cape Horn 36 is a renowned offshore cruising sailboat, often praised for its sturdiness and ability to handle harsh weather conditions. It’s a long-range, blue-water cruiser with a strong reputation for safety and comfort. The hull design is a fin keel, and it’s typically rigged as a sloop, which provides good handling and stability, making it ideal for serious long-distance sailing.

Are you thinking about getting one, or just curious?

I currently have an Everglades 325 with twin Yahama 300's. Great boat but it is a tank and drinks gas like crazy. At around 38 knots it is getting .9 MPG. I fish out of Destin, Fl and consistently go out 60 to 80 miles. I need a faster and more fuel efficient boat. I'm looking at Yellowfin 36 or Cape Horn 36. Recently sea trialed both. I'm leaning toward Yellowfin but I can get a new Cape for much less and factory is very close to Destin, FL where the boat will be. Also, Yellowfin had a 14 to 16 month wait for new. I am picky and want exactly what I want on a boat so I usually buy new. I'm torn. Please help!!!

So... I sea trialed a Cape Horn 36, Yellowfin 36 and Invincible 36 in the last week. I ended up signing papers on a new Invincible 36 yesterday. All three were awesome boats. The Cape was built like a tank. Very solid ride and great lines but storage was an issue. It also got the worse performance numbers. Tripp 300 Yamahas on all three boats and the CH toped out at 60mph with a .8mpg. A good cruse at 40mph was about 1.2 mpg. The Yellowfin 36 was a great boat but had a little chine walk with the bow when at top speed. Top speed was 65mph at .8 mpg. Cruse was 40mph at 1.3mpg. The YF had more storage than the cape and fit and finish was about the same in my opinion. But the YF had a small head and no built in ice chest. My wife likes a decent head with a toilet and we both want storage and ice chests built in. Then came the Invincible 36. It had the best performance numbers. Top speed of 70mph at .9mpg. Best cruse at 40mph was at 1.3mpg. The interesting thing was at 50 it was 1.2mpg, at 60mph it was 1.1mpg and at WOT going 70mph it was an impressive .9mpg. The fit and finish was great and the head was good size with a nice toilet. It also had two built in ice chests under two of the seats. One front and one in back. Plenty of storage. The boat is a blank slate as far as electronics so I'm loading it down with Garmin. It had front seating with storage under as well. We have a large family and this boat will suit family trips to Crab Island better than a YF. I must admit that the CH was probably the better looking boat. The cushions on all seating a little more plush and thicker. I really liked the hard top with the back rails sweeping back to the deck. All three boats are awesome and have their pros and cons. For my tastes and for the family the Invincible 36 was the boat for us. Thanks for all the help on this feed...
